Look for 24/7 video surveillance with recorded footage, gated access with keypad or card entry systems, on-site security personnel (especially for luxury facilities), individual unit alarms, well-lit facilities both inside and out, and secure perimeter fencing. High-end facilities may also offer climate-controlled units with fire suppression systems and regular security patrols.

Access depends on the facility and your plan. Ask whether visits require an appointment, which hours apply, whether there are access fees, and how you will retrieve the vehicle before signing.

Climate-controlled space regulates temperature and sometimes humidity; ask for the facility's actual operating range and monitoring practices. Standard indoor space may shelter a vehicle from direct weather without regulating its environment. Match the choice to your vehicle, local conditions, storage duration and manufacturer guidance.

Clean the vehicle, remove perishables, check the tires, and document its condition. For fuel, battery, fluids and tire support, follow the vehicle manufacturer's storage instructions and ask a qualified technician when uncertain. Confirm which preparation and maintenance services the facility permits.

A wrap may help with surface exposure, but it does not replace a suitable storage environment or routine checks. Ask the installer whether the material and removal process suit your vehicle's paint condition, especially for older finishes.

Ask your insurer what your policy covers while the car is stored and whether changing coverage is allowed under your loan, lease and local rules. Ask the facility what its policy covers, its liability limits and whether you need proof of your own coverage. Do not assume the facility's policy covers your vehicle.

Policies for non-running vehicles vary. Ask whether the facility accepts them, how the vehicle must be moved, and whether there are extra fees before arranging transport.

Minimum terms, renewals and cancellation notice vary by facility. Ask for the total cost for your planned duration and whether a longer commitment changes the quoted rate or adds a penalty for early exit.

Payment methods and move-in charges vary. Ask the facility which methods it accepts, when payment is due, whether autopay is required, and whether there is a refundable deposit or setup fee.

A visit can help you assess the space, access and cleanliness before committing. If you cannot visit, ask for a live tour and written details about security and climate controls. Check that the space fits your vehicle and planned access needs.

Facility labels are not standardized. Compare the actual space, climate controls, security, access, insurance terms and included services in each quote. A higher price alone does not establish better protection.
